Over the last 40 years there have been huge advances in the management of heart disease which has become increasingly common. Understanding of heart disease and its early intervention have led to a reduction in the rate of heart attacks and strokes.

Many people are unaware that they have underlying heart disease.  For this reason, regular cardiac check-ups are valuable. It is relatively simple to assess the heart in the out-patient environment, at the same time we can monitor your blood pressure and blood lipids. Regular screening ensures that any abnormalities are found at an early stage and appropriate treatment can be commenced before things progress, this enables your doctor to minimise future damage that may result from any heart condition.

At the GibMed International Hospital, our Cardiologist, Dr Bernd Reisbeck, offers a full cardiac assessment service. Non-invasive investigations such as echocardiogram, electrocardiography (ECG), 24-hour ECG monitoring and stress ECG ensure your heart’s electrical and physiological wellbeing.

If any abnormalities are found expert advice is provided and if necessary, further tests (interventional cardiac angiography +/- intervention) can be organised for you.

Our cardiac department provides the following:

  • Cardiac disease risk assessment
  • Blood pressure assessment and control
  • ECG (resting and stress) interpretation
  • Echocardiography
  • 24- hour ECG monitoring and recording
  • 24- hour blood pressure monitoring and recording
  • Management of all cardiac conditions including following a heart attack
  • Dr Reisbeck performs interventional cardiology treatments at his interventional centre in Marbella
  • Onward referral to our Cardiothoracic Surgical specialist’s team in Spain Dr Aranda

When you breathe, your lungs take in oxygen from the air and deliver it to the bloodstream. The cells in your body need oxygen to work and grow. During a normal day, you breathe nearly 25,000 times. People with lung disease have difficulty breathing. Throughout the world millions of people are affected by lung disease.

The term “lung disease” refers to many acute and chronic disorders affecting the lungs.  These include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, infections (influenza, pneumonia and tuberculosis), bronchiolitis, smoking-related lung disease, vaping-induced lung disease, lung cancer, and breathing problems such as sleep apnoea (a condition where the body forgets to breathe whilst you are asleep which results in tiredness and lethargy).

Respiratory medicine is the area of health care that specifically deals with disorders of the lungs. At the GibMed International Hospital, our physician Dr Waqar Haider has a special interest in respiratory medicine.  Within the clinic he provides a dedicated respiratory healthcare service, including sleep studies for people with possible sleep apnoea. Our physician, Dr Isabella Bassill, has a particular interest in long COVID and provides support and treatment for those who are having to deal with its lasting effects.

If you are concerned about your lungs or think you may have a breathing disorders, contact the clinic for an appointment.
